Grades 1st - 5th. Join us as we explore the many facets of Science! We'll play with tornadoes in a bottle, make a musical instrument, create our very own science pets and much more! Students also learn a few magic tricks and become CSI detectives!! Scholarship recipients pay $30. Instructors: Nuts About Science staff. 6 classes. No class 2/25 & 3/10.
Focus of Each Class:
The Sunny Side of Earth: Where are the moon and stars during the day? Students explore the solar system and create a model of the Sun, Earth and Moon and a model of the Little Dipper.
Making Waves with Light and Sound: We explore light and sound waves and how they help communicate messages by creating a musical instrument and an LED Light talkers!!
Wild Weather and Pink Snow: Sometimes weather is just plain wild! We make pink snow a tornado in a bottle and experiment with static electricity with a balloon and Styrofoam beads.
Science Pets: We'll make Squidy, a glow in the dark squid that's also a Cartesian diver and a bowl full of worms. Polymer worms that is! Don't worry, these science pets don't eat...much!
CSI for Kids: In this CSI class students become detectives and use deductive reasoning to solve "The Case of the Stolen Snack" by investigating evidence left at the crime scene.
Science Magic: Is magic really based in science? We'll perform magic tricks while learning the scientific properties behind them to answer this question.
